Bio
Jeffrey is the acclaimed author of four children’s books, including Musical Truth: A Musical Journey through Modern Black Britain (winner of the Quiz Writers’ Choice Secondary Non–Fiction Award and Winner of UKLA Information Books 3- 14+) and Kofi and the Rap Battle Summer, which have collectively been listed for 10 Awards, including the Yoto Carnegie Medal, Jhalak Prize and UKLA Book Awards. Jeffrey has also written three adult non-fiction books and had chapters in numerous anthologies for children and adults.

Jeffrey’s children’s and adult books alike aim to illuminate with joy and truth and help readers better understand and navigate the world we live in. He works widely with schools, libraries, festivals and bookshops to help all children to realise they each have a story to share.

A teacher for 15 years, Jeffrey now provides talks and training to schools, universities and organisations on race, identity, masculinity and education. He is Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Manchester’s Institute for Education and was awarded with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters from the University of Leicester in January 2023.

Having grown up in Brixton, South London, Jeffrey now lives in East Yorkshire with his wife and two children.
