Imagine visiting your school library and the librarian breaking into a smile as she unearths a copy of a book she had put aside with you in mind – that’s the reality children face when they visit the library at Hook-with-Warsash C of E Academy! Caroline Angas takes great pride in promoting reading at every opportunity for every one of the school’s 400+ community. Such is her knowledge of the school’s children as individuals, any child visiting her can rely on Caroline being able to recommend books suited to their interests, hobbies and passions. With over ten years of experience in the role, she has built her library into a place where children are excited to visit, and sad to leave. Avid readers completing the school’s reading challenge are treated to a hot chocolate and biscuits as they share the reasons behind their favourite books. Every so often, the school community will be awash with excitement as a guest author visits and shares the story behind their journey to authorship – all arranged by Caroline with the aim of inspiring a love of reading.
But perhaps the greatest accolade that Caroline can be afforded is evident when she requests volunteers for the Junior Librarian role and is inundated with offers from the school’s oldest children. Oscar Wilde would surely remind us that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
