Mike Barfield is an award-winning author, performer and cartoonist who enjoys creating funny non-fiction in comic strip form for younger readers. He studied botany and zoology at Kings College London before switching to writing funny things for TV and radio. One of his proudest achievements is writing for iconic cartoon character Dennis the Menace when Dennis made his TV debut way back in 1991. With his STEM hat on, Mike has delivered schools workshops across the country, as well performing fun and fact filled shows at major festivals and events. He has over two dozen children's books under his belt, translated around the world into easily as many languages. In April this year, his comic-strip style book The Wild Life of Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Animals (illustrated by Paula Bossio) won the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize. Helping judge this competition will give him an ideal opportunity to read lots of books (which he loves) and drink lots of tea (which he also loves). Dream job.
