Bio
Alom Shaha is a dad of two and a science teacher who has spent most of his professional life trying to share his passion for science and education with the public. Alom was born in Bangladesh but grew up in London. As well as being the author of several books, including “Why Don't Things Fall Up?” and “Mr Shaha’s Recipes for Wonder”, Alom has written for a number of print and online publications including The Guardian and New Scientist. He has also co-authored educational books and produced a range of science teacher-training resources which have been used by institutions all over the world. Alom has written, produced, directed, and appeared in a number of television programmes and held fellowships from the National Endowment for Science, Technology, and the Arts (NESTA) and the Nuffield Foundation. He has a strong commitment to voluntary work, and has represented the community in which he grew up as an elected politician, and been a board member for a number of charitable organisations including Humanists UK. Alom currently splits his time between looking after his daughters, teaching at a comprehensive school in London, and working on his next book.
