Geri Halliwell-Horner is a New York Times best-selling author, producer, actress, and accomplished singer who is widely recognised for her iconic place in British pop culture as an original member of the record-breaking girl group The Spice Girls. As ‘Ginger Spice’ Geri played a formative role in the band as they became one of the biggest selling girl groups of all time. The band won numerous accolades including Brit Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and World Music Awards.
Geri launched her solo career in 1999, going on to sell 21 million records. The following year, she was nominated for several BRIT awards, in the categories ‘Best British Female Solo Artist’ and ‘Best Pop Act’ (2000). Overall, as an artist, Geri has sold 90 million records as both a band member and a solo act.
As a writer and lyricist, Geri has been featured on the soundtrack of hit franchises such as The Simpsons, Bridget Jones Diary, and Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before with her part in the hit single ‘Wannabe’.
2023 saw the global launch of Geri’s new book series ‘Rosie Frost’, the first of which – Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen – was released in Autumn 2023 and swiftly entered the New York Times Bestseller list. The audiobook adaption, narrated by Geri, has since become an Audible ‘Best Listen of 2023’. The book deal was made with Scholastic UK and Penguin Young Reader imprint Philomel Books in the US. She is the author of the Ugenia Lavender series, which centres on the adventures of a positive female role model for young girls, Ugenia Lavender. In 2008, upon the first book’s release, Geri became a number one bestselling author.
In 2023, Geri was seen in Sony’s Gran Turismo, the film adaption of the best-selling racing video game. Geri starred alongside Djimon Hounsou and David Harbour, with District 9’s Neill Blomkamp directing. Geri has also been heard as a voice actress in 2021’s short animation The Crown with a Shadow. The animation – based on the real world gender-morphing skunk fish – was used as a positive story about the transgender community. Geri voiced the character of The Queen.
In 2020 she launched her docuseries with Youtube, Rainbow Woman. Geri produced, wrote, and directed the series, which consisted of short episodes following her personal life and travels, and exclusive music. The YouTube channel has since reached over one million views.
Ger has worked extensively with numerous charities and global organisations over the course of her life so far. In May 2024, Geri partnered with the Barbara Bush Foundation to Promote Family Literacy in Washington, D.C. In November 2022, Geri received an honorary doctorate award from Sheffield Hallam University in recognition of her commitment to raising the aspirations of children and young people, advocating for women’s rights and an outstanding contribution to the music industry over the last 25 years. Following this, she has consequently given talks to aspiring writers at the university and the importance of literacy.
Currently, Geri is an ambassador of the Royal Commonwealth Society, which works to improve the prospects of Commonwealth citizens through literacy, equality, and connected communities. Elsewhere, her work with the Royal Foundation includes the Homewards campaign, led by The Prince of Wales – who completed a series of school visits with Ambassadors such as Geri in order to facilitate a collaborative, country-wide push to tackle homelessness. She is also an ambassador for the underprivileged youth charity The King’s Trust which was founded by King Charles III in 1976.
Geri has been a supporter of WWF for many years, having donated a percentage of the overall profit from her first book Rosie Frost and The Falcon Queen to WWF, and she has recently helped launched their latest campaign a ‘Prescription For Nature’. The protagonist of Geri’s book, Rosie Frost stands strongly for conservation and protection of endangered species, just as WWF do.
In 1998, Geri became a Goodwill ambassador for the UN, and has since promoted reproductive health care, equality, and education. As part of her work on this front, she has addressed congress on behalf of the UN for the bill to rights for women’s reproductive healthcare. Geri has also spoken at the Oxford Union Talk and addressed Harvard, on women’s empowerment and a purpose driven life.
