About

The Get Well Spell is a gentle story designed to help build early socio-emotional skills and lay the foundations of good mental well-being for not just early-years children, but for their grown-ups too. Told from a reflective distance to inspire and entertain, it draws inspiration from the philosophy of filling one’s cup, to help enable the reader to understand basic self-care needs so they can be their best self, both for themselves and those around them. The story is seen through the eyes of a of a tired unicorn named Morris, engaging young readers as they discover that he’s used up all his magic helping others. As Morris begins his quest to find a fabled spell to make him better, his journey through the magical landscapes created by Hannah Tkachenko’s art sees him encounter the five steps to well-being; connection, activity, mindful awareness, learning, and giving. He also nourishes his body, plays, is cared for by others, and sleeps well. On reaching his destination he meets a wise young elf who offers a puzzle that helps Morris realise that it was not a spell that he needed to feel better, but the journey of looking after himself.
It incorporates three pages of activities for children to engage in, to consolidate the messages from book and develop well-being habits to try at home.
